The greatness of the Russian literature lies in the fact that in a world that is shrinking as it evolves economically the Russian writers have reflected the impulses from without in the Russian soul, and in return have sent out their national message and opened new horizons to other countries. Alexander Pushkin, born in 1799, was a genius, one of the most beloved Russian poets. He carried Russian poetry at one bound on to an international plane. His poetry is vital, free and beautiful - a mysterious quality which will ever inspire his readers. He was also known as a writer who depicted great historical events of Russia. His works always featured the true characters of his contemporaries and the life style of the Russian people in the beginning of the 19th century. Pushkin like some other outstanding poets of his time was killed in a duel in 1837 at the tragically early age. The participants of this tour will visit the cities and places closely associated with the most important periods of the poet's life - Moscow, Saint Petersburg and Pskov.
