Summer Palace of Peter the Great
The palace was built in 1710-1714 in the Summer garden, which is the city’s oldest.
Designed by Domenico Trezzini in refined Baroque style, it looks very modest if compared with palaces built for Peter the Great’s descendants. The original interiors of the palace (it is nowadays a museum), the colourful stove tiles and ceiling paintings were restored in the 70s of the last century. The display features original furniture pieces, wall tapestries, glass and china items. If, after visiting the palace, you have some spare time left, don’t miss to stroll around the Summer garden, which is a real masterpiece of the Russian landscape art. Laid out on Peter’s orders, it is known for many 17-18th century Italian statues.
