The Sergey M. Kirov’s Museum
The Sergey M. Kirov’s Museum, the branch of the State Museum of the History of Saint Petersburg is situated in the historic center of Saint Petersburg.
The Museum was opened in Leningrad in 1938. It is located on Kamennoostrovsky avenue 26/28, where in one of the comfortable apartment from 1926 till 1934 Sergey M. Kirov did live. The Party leaders Josef V. Stalin, Klim E. Voroshilov, Sergo K. Ordjonikidse, visited this apartment.
The Sergey M. Kirov’s Museum includes memorial five-room apartment, where daily life of the Party leader of the Stalin epoch is presented. The Kirov’s home office, library, dining room, bedroom, recreation room, kitchen, the front and maid’s entrance halls are opened for visitors. Kirov’s apartment is remarkable for the unique collection of authentic personal belongings of Kirov and entirely intact interior elements.
The museum is the unique monument of the Stalin epoch. Its staff investigates history of the period. The exposition “Leningrad in 1920-1930-s” reflected the social, economic, political and cultural aspects of Leningrad life in the 1920-1930s.
The museum activity is primary aimed at work with secondary and high school students, and contributes to understanding the Past and the Future. Some educational programs for children are developed. One of them based on the interactive exhibition “For our happy childhood…” created in 2000.
