Museum of instruments
Founded in 1900 by Alexander III, the collection owes its origin to the head master of the court orchestra, the colonel Shtakelberg (1848-1925), who aroused Alexander III’s interest in collecting instruments. The tsar, who was keen on playing the brass, spared neither efforts nor resources for gathering the first-rate collection. Nowadays, it is one of the world’s largest. Over 3000 rare and unique instruments from Europe, Africa, the Middle and the Near East are displayed in the Sheremetyev Palace.
