This is the city’s first wooden building which is still surviving in its original form. The house was built in 1703 in three days (reputedly) for Peter the Great when he arrived to supervise the construction of the Peter and Paul fortress and his new city. The small modest cabin was Peter’s residence for the next six years. The display features some exhibits of Peter’s personal belongings, household items dating to the early 18th century and various materials devoted to the history of the construction of St.Petersburg. The painting of the jambs and the imitation brickwork are incomparable. Stone house around the cabin was built by Catherine II to protect the original building from destruction.
