Traditional Russian cuisine
Today we decided to tell you about the Russian traditional cuisine. It is widely known all around the world thanks to its originality. The Russian cuisine is extraordinarily various. You even can't imagine that when Ivan the Terrible gave his dinners more than 500 dishes were served to guests and it is important to mark that they didn't repeat themselves! At the same time only 50 - 60 dishes were dished up for European monarchs.
Dishes made of different grains are traditional for the Russian cuisine: porridges, zapekankas, krupeniks. There are so many dishes made of vegetables and the main place is given to the cabbage. It is impossible to imagine the traditional russian table without pickled cucumbers. They are part of many dishes: vinegret (the Russian beet salad) and soups as solyanka and rassolnik.
Such a great variety of soups is presented only in the russian cuisine. The Russian cuisine numbers more than 60 kinds of stchis (a russian cabbage soup). It was not for nothing that a spoon was the main cutlery in those times. It appeared 400 years earlier than a fork.
The traditional Russian drinks as kvas and sbiten (an alcoholic drink made of honey) had been being produced in the tenth century. But they never were just ordinary drinks. They were served only for some special feasts and were intended only for well - off classes. And it is no wonder as these drinks had to be hold during 10 - 12 years before they were dished up to the table.
Here you can find not only the history of the national Russian dishes but also to find the receipt how to cook them.
