Pushkin State Fine Arts Museum
The museum is in a Neoclassical-style building raised at private donations in 1898-1912 by the Russian architect Robert Klein.
Opened in 1912 (originally as the museum of moulds), it houses great collection of ancient and medieval art and western European painting, sculpture, and graphic arts, which is Russia’s second largest after the Hermitage’s collection. Especially noteworthy are the holdings of French art from the late 19th and early 20th centuries (gathered by the Russian collectors S.I. Shchukin and I.A. Morozov), which include paintings by Monet, Gauguin, Picasso, and Van Gogh. Among most valuable masterpieces in the collection are six portraits by Rembrandt, paintings by Renaissance masters, and the 17th century Dutch and Flemish paintings.
