Saint Petersburg to host the 10th Manifesta Biennial of Contemporary Art

St.Petersburg is considered by many to be the Russian Capital of Arts. Therefore it is not a coincidence that this magnificent fabulous city has been chosen as the Host City for the Manifesta – European Biennial of Contemporary Art. It is going to be double Jubilee for Manifesta, it is held in 10th time and 2014 is the 20th anniversary since the Manifesta movement started. St.Petersburg has also been chosen because its historical role as the Russian “the Window to Europe” - the city that connects two worlds.
The world famous State Hermitage Museum will be the major organizer of Manifesta on the Russian side providing its venues and quality expertise to make the event truly unforgettable. In 2014 The Hermitage is celebrating 250 anniversary of its foundation and will open the doors of the freshly reconstructed historical General Staff Building, that will become one of the principal stages of the biennale. Other cultural establishments and venues of St.Petersburg will also take part.
Originally Manifesta has started in Netherlands as initiative to create an all-European movement for contemporary visual arts. Each time it is held in a different location, the headquarters of the foundation is situated in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
