12-23.07.2012 St.Petersburg is once again confirming it's status as the primal cultural and tourist centre of Russia. From 12 to 23 July it hosts International opera festival 'Opera for everybody'.
The Russia's cultural capital for the last couple of centuries keep the importance of being among the principal centres of the country's opera culture. But the elitism of modern opera culture led to opera's retreating to the posh teatre's stages where only the few could enjoy and appreciate it. One of the mail goals of the 'Opera for everybody' festival is to 'give opera back to people', to introduce the best examples of the genre to the broad audience of the Russian and foreign tourists.
During two weeks open air performances of the Russian opera classics will be offered to the guests of the St.Petersburg and its citizens free of charge. Some of the city's most impressive landmarks and venues, such as Peter and Paul Fortress, Yelagin Island Palace, Mikhailovsky Palace, Academic Capella, Art's Square will be acting as stages for the festival.
